RECONSTRUCTION OF PESTI MAGYAR SZÍNHÁZ (HUNGARIAN THEATRE OF PEST)

The whole-block-size, free standing theatre in the urban fabric of Pest has been transformed significantly several times during the last hundred years (1897, 1914, 1966) but it needed fundamental reconstruction again thanks to its disrepair. Following the detailed survey of the building a new functional and architectural program was created including new constructions under and over the existing structure, new studio auditorium and rehearsal room, advanced comfort for spectators, modernization of the complete stage technology, and rationalizing and extension of service areas. Besides this, a new facade system, showing the complex history of the theatre building, was made as well as the perfection of the accessibility of entrances and the pedestrian friendly development of public square.
